By 2030, packaging should generally be recyclable. For online retailers, this means shipping packages may contain no more than 50 per cent empty space. Packaging sizes and shipping processes will therefore need to be reviewed.
Material requirements are also becoming stricter. For example, food packaging will face tighter PFAS rules. Additionally, companies will need to record more information about their packaging materials. By 2029, deposit systems for certain single-use beverage containers are expected to be introduced, and reusable packaging will become more common. From 2030, some single-use packaging, including certain packaging used by restaurants and hotels, will no longer be allowed.
