Radio Equipment Directive / RED Directive

The Radio Equipment/RED Directive 2014/53/EU, targets equipment that can generate or receive electromagnetic signals for communication or positioning. In contrast to the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, emission and radiation restrictions are deliberately permitted for certain frequency bands. Consequently, the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU does not apply to these devices. However, the Radio Equipment/RED Directive 2014/53/EU overrides the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU. It is a CE Directive, which means it requires an EU Declaration of Conformity and CE marking for the product.

Legally compliant implementation of the Radio Equipment/RED Directive

For implementation, the Radio Equipment/RED Directive requires the evaluation of the selected test standards, unless they are harmonized standards. This evaluation must be documented and, together with the test reports, is part of the technical documentation of the product as well as the basis of the EU declaration of conformity to be drawn up.
