No sales without reliable product data

The ESPR makes sustainability, circularity and product data more important than ever. In future, product information will be key to market access and compliance.

The Work Plan for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) 2025–2030 initially prioritises textiles and clothing, furniture, mattresses, tyres, as well as iron, steel and aluminium. Further requirements will cover areas such as durability, reparability, upgradability, resource efficiency and recyclability of electrical and electronic products. The regulation covers almost all physical products sold in the EU, including goods supplied by companies outside Europe. Products that do not meet the applicable requirements may be banned from the EU market.

The Digital Product Passport will be key to data quality

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is an essential part of the ESPR. It will provide digital access to information throughout a product’s entire life cycle. Depending on the product, this may include materials, origin, repair options, recyclability and environmental impact. Businesses will need to collect accurate data, keep it up to date and share it across their supply chains. The exact requirements will depend on the rules for each product group. Companies should start by identifying affected products, reviewing their supply chains and checking whether their current systems can manage the required data.

trade-e-bility can help your business prepare for the ESPR and improve its product data and compliance processes.
