Harmful substances in plastic tableware with bamboo admixture

On 21 May 2021, trade-e-bility reported that products made of bamboo are not suitable for contact with food. On 28 July 2021, the German consumer advice centre (Verbraucherzentrale) likewise reported on harmful substances in plastic tableware with bamboo admixture and recommended caution.

On 21 May 2021, trade-e-bility reported that products made of bamboo are not suitable for contact with food. The backdrop to this was a corresponding communication from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

On 28 July 2021, the German consumer advice centre (Verbraucherzentrale) likewise reported on harmful substances in plastic tableware with bamboo admixture and recommended caution.

Manufacturers and importers of food contact products should take care to comply with the statutory regulations. Even supposedly natural or organic ingredients in these products are no guarantee for food safety.
