Since July, a flat-rate customs duty of three euros per product group has applied to low-cost shipments. These costs can be passed on to customers. From November, the EU also plans to introduce a handling fee for such parcels. The final amount is not yet known, but the German Retail Federation (German abbr. HDE) expects it to be around two euros per shipment.
But are these new fees enough to counter the competitive advantage of platforms such as Temu and Shein? The HDE is not convinced. It is calling for more severe measures, including centralised market checks for suppliers from non-EU countries.
For producers and retailers, international online trade remains subject to complex and stricter rules. trade-e-bility can help you understand and meet these legal requirements, so you can focus on your core business and stay competitive!
