Ban on PFAS in REACh moves closer

The Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) was the last scientific body to approve the German proposal to ban PFAS. trade-e-bility informs you about relevant statutory amendments and supports you in implementing new requirements or SCIP registrations.

In December, an important obstacle was cleared on the way to further restrictions on the use of pollutants from the PFAS family. PFAS are per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

The Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) was the last scientific body to approve the German proposal to ban PFAS. This means that nothing now stands in the way of a corresponding decision by the EU Commission, which is probably expected in 2022.

PFAS are today used in food contact materials and textiles. They are already notifiable when used today as SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) and must be registered in the SCIP database of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

Manufacturers or importers of products containing PFAS should keep an eye on further developments as they unfold.
