Temu and eBay call for energy labels and test reports

For several weeks now, trade-e-bility customers have been reporting that online marketplaces such as Temu and eBay are increasingly requiring them to provide energy efficiency labels, for example for lighting products.

Temu in particular is demanding energy efficiency labels for items such as lamps, Christmas tree lights, light bulbs and generally anything related to lighting. Strangely, in some cases Temu is demanding labels even for products for which there is no such obligation in the EU. In addition, Temu is increasingly demanding test reports for toys that originate exclusively from one of what Temu calls "ten internationally recognised organisations", as well as laboratory tests on physical and mechanical properties (e.g. sharp edges, choking hazard), flammability tests, migration of certain elements (19 elements, including cadmium, lead and arsenic) and chemical limits (REACh).

Ebay requires its sellers to add information on energy efficiency and performance to their listings within a new feature. The new feature will use data from the European Product Register for Energy Efficiency Labelling (EPREL) – the official EU database where producers and suppliers register products that require energy efficiency labelling information. This affects electrical appliances such as household appliances, lighting, smartphones, tablets and tyres. To use the new function, sellers should add the EPREL registration number to their listing. This unique code identifies the product model in the EPREL database, and when the data is available, eBay automatically retrieves the official information and displays it in the seller's listing. To do this, sellers need printed labels or product data sheets that include the EPREL registration number. The QR code from the energy efficiency label or tyre label can also be scanned. The registration number can be found at the end of the URL address or in the downloaded product card.

If you have any problems with the energy label or documentation for toys, please contact trade-e-bility via +49/40/750687-300 or send an email. They will help you with an EPREL impact analysis, an EPREL database service or a document check to ensure that there are no interruptions to your sales. Would you like to take part in an EPREL training so that you can register your products yourself? Secure your personal EPREL training here.
